Renault-Nissan
The Renault-Nissan alliance said it would invest Rs.4500 crore ($1.07 billion) on the plant. The plant, which will be built on 800 acres of land, is expected to be operational from 2010 and will provide 4,000 and 12,000 jobs directly and indirectly.

Daimler Hero Motor Corp,
A joint venture floated by German auto major Daimler AG and Indian two-wheeler giant Hero group, signed an agreement with the state government to manufacture commercial vehicles in Tamil Nadu. The joint venture will set up the manufacturing facility at the Oragadam Industrial Estate near Chennai to roll out 70,000 light, medium and heavy vehicles annually, The total investment in the plant, spread over five years, is expected to be Rs.35 billion ($80.86 million), though it could go up to Rs.40 billion depending on requirement. At peak capacity, the plant will employ 3,000 people.

Natrip
In Chennai, NATRiP is developing a centre with an investment of Rs 470 crore, which would have a NATRiP, a joint venture among the central government, a number of state governments and the country's auto industry to create a state-of-the-art testing, validation and R&D infrastructure, would set up its centres at Manesar, Chennai, Indore, Silchar, Rae Bareilly, Pune and Ahmednagar. full-fledged testing and homologation facility for OEMs.

H.I.E.T
Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology (H.I.E.T) was established in Chennai in 1966 .
